Artists Sharon with Heels & Chucks, Todd Simpson and Mojo Child, Alvin Garrett and Raquel Lily to Perform in Downtown Ensley on September 12th

Birmingham City Council District 9 and REV Birmingham are proud to host Ensley Alive, a concert and mini-outdoor music festival to highlight the heritage and revitalization efforts of Ensley. The event features a live performance from renowned artists Todd Simpson and Mojo Child, featuring Sharon with Heels & Chucks, Alvin Garrett and Raquel Lily. The event takes place Saturday, September 12th from 2-6 p.m. at Avenue E and 19th Street Ensley.

“We are dedicated to drawing people back into these historic downtowns,” said District 9 Councilor Marcus Lundy. “It’s time to see these communities as vibrant, safe and viable centers to be enjoyed. Ensley Alive is a fun, family-friendly and interactive means to re- envision the opportunities that exist within these areas.”

September 12th Ensley Alive will feature food by Magic City Sweet Ice, Travis Bear Burgers and Joannetta Jarman’s Caribbean Soul Food stand, as well as giveaways and special presentations by community stakeholders.

“There’s a larger mission behind Ensley Alive,” said REV Neighborhood District Coordinator Brian Gunn. “We want to show Birmingham citizens — people who aren’t necessarily immediate residents or visitors of the area – the caliber of revitalization efforts being organized to rejuvenate Historic Downtown Ensley’s business core. Many people still believe that Ensley’s business district is dead, but this concert will demonstrate this community’s pride and perseverance; and that Ensley is indeed alive.”

Both City Council District 9 and REV Birmingham hope to expose the immediate and surrounding communities to some of the new and existing businesses in the district.
