Dwight Hamm, Hamm Farm
Dwight Hamm of Hamm Farm has been with the Urban Food Project almost as long aswe’ve been around, but he’s been farming in Cullman for 11 years. A buddy of his begged him to come farm with him years ago and the rest is history. Hamm has been an integral partner of UFP as one of our largest producers and a member of the newly formed Urban Food Advisory Board bringing his wealth of farming knowledge to the table.
Hamm grows beautiful peppers, tomatoes, onions, squash, zucchini, corn and so much more for Birmingham restaurants and corner stores. You know the produce is good when he shares the most enjoyable aspect of farming is “eatin’ it’!” But ask him what his favorite thing to grow (and eat) is, the answer is easy: watermelon. “I have pretty good watermelon,’ Hamm shared, but we know he’s selling it short – Hamm has some of the best watermelon we’ve tasted. We can’t wait to get our hands on some this summer.
In addition to sourcing through the Urban Food Project Hamm is regularly selling his produce at Birmingham’s favorite farmers markets. You can find him at Pepper Place Farmer’s Market, the Urban Cookhouse Summit and Homewood Farmer’s Markets, the UAB Farmer’s Market, and now the West Homewood Farmer’s Market.
